Neil Starr is a Milwaukee
native who attended Milwaukee Public Schools and graduated from South
Division High School. He has worked as a laborer in
construction, traveled with medicine men and has been active in the
American Indian Movement. Neil Starr combines in his work
traditional Indian art with a striking contemporary form.
Starr entered art contests from
as early as 10 years old . He won First Prize in the 1988
Indian Summer Art competition in Milwarkee. He was commissioned
to paint former Governor Tony Earl and former Mayor Henry Maier .

It is an artistic statement that their culture is alive and
well. It depicts a mother dressing her child in traditional dress
